Barishal Apso Saline Pharmaceuticals workers who were laid off from their jobs blocked the highway for 5 hours on Saturday from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm at the intersection of Dhaka-Barisal highway in Barishal city to get back their jobs.
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on the highway at that time, causing extreme passenger suffering.
When the Barishal district administration assured the protesters of a discussion meeting, they left the highway.
Earlier, on Saturday morning, the workers gathered in front of the Apso Saline Pharmaceuticals factory on Bogra Road in Barishal city.
From there, they took out a procession and blocked the highway.
Barishal Metropolitan BNP joint convener Afroza Khanam Nasrin and BAS district coordinator Dr. Manisha Chakraborty joined the movement in solidarity with the blockade.
The BSD leader said that they were unfairly laid off all at once.
The protesters left the highway due to public suffering.
Representatives of the protesters have been called from the Barishal district administration. Mizanur Rahman, a worker who participated in the movement, said that the Opsonin Pharma authorities are not accepting our demands.
Mizanur Rahman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station, said that traffic on the highway is currently normal.
