Protests have continued for the eighth day against not giving party nomination to BNP Central Executive Committee member Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Alam for Satkhira-3 (Kaliganj-Assasuni) constituency. A huge rally and protest procession was held in Kaliganj at 4 pm on Monday (November 10).

On the other hand, a human chain was held in the area adjacent to Kapsonda Bridge in Assasuni. Thousands of leaders and activists from different unions of the upazila participated in this hour-long rally on Kaliganj Bazar Bridge. After the rally, a huge protest procession came out and circled the main roads of Kaliganj.

The speakers complained, “Professor Dr. Shahidul Alam has been closely associated with BNP politics for a long time and is a favorite face of the local people. His popularity, sacrifice and dedication to the party are unique. Ignoring such a dedicated leader has created deep anger and disappointment in the minds of the grassroots workers.” They said to the central leadership, “We want this decision to be reconsidered and Professor Dr. Shahidul Alam should be nominated. Otherwise, the grassroots leaders and workers will not accept it.”

Champaful Union BNP Organizing Secretary Govinda Thakur, Nalta Union BNP member Sheikh Nuruzzaman, Upazila BNP former Student Affairs Secretary and Bishnupur Union Parishad Chairman Jahangir Alam, leaders of various organs and associate organizations including Upazila and Union BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal. Later, a huge protest procession circled the Kaliganj Bazar area and ended with a rally in front of the party office.

Meanwhile, a human chain program was held in the area adjacent to Kapsonda Bridge in Asashuni Upazila at 10 am on Monday (November 10). Under the chairmanship of Khajra Union BNP leader and president Mohammad Ali and moderated by Upazila Matsyajibi Dal vice-president Abdul Latif, the main speakers were former Upazila BNP senior joint general secretary Zulfikar Ali Juli, Upazila Jubo Dal senior joint convener Hafizur Rahman, Khajra Union organizing secretary Imran Hossain, student leader Zakir Hossain Santu, Ward No. 9 BNP general secretary Shah Jamal Hossain, Ward No. 7 BNP general secretary Hafizul Islam, Badsha Alamgir Kena, Habibur Rahman Babu, Ramzan Kha Sujan Sardar, among others.

The speakers also said that Dr. “Shahidul Alam is not a name of individual-based politics, he is a symbol of people’s hope and trust. He stood by the poor and suffering people and provided treatment with his own money, without asking for anything in return. The party cannot become isolated by depriving such a candidate.”
