A one-day debate workshop was held at Cox’s Bazar Government College, a traditional educational institution in southern Chittagong. The workshop was organized by the Cox’s Bazar Government College Debate Club on Thursday (November 6). The college’s principal, Professor Amirul Anwar Chowdhury, was present as the chief guest at the event. He said, “Debate clubs play an important role in nation-building. There is no alternative to debate in the intellectual development of students. The college administration will always stand by the debate club.” The workshop was presided over by Mithun Chakraborty, head of the college’s English department and moderator of the debate club.
Mohammad Ullah, general secretary of the college teachers’ council, was present as the special guest.
The main attraction of the workshop was Mobin Majumder, a former debater of the Dhaka University Debating Society. He told the students, “Participation in debates plays an important role in increasing students’ logic, thinking power and self-confidence. Along with studies, co-curricular activities including debates develop a student into a complete person.” The event turned into a festive atmosphere with the lively participation of members of the debate club and students in the day-long workshop.
