The area has become tense after BNP’s Central Executive Committee member and ‘doctor of the poor’ Dr. Shahidul Alam, known as the ‘doctor of the poor’, was not nominated in Satkhira-3 (Kaliganj-Assasuni) constituency. On the 5th day of Saturday (November 08), a protest procession from Kaliganj Bus Terminal circled the main road and reached the BNP office. Later, its workers and supporters held a sit-in program there. In addition to leaders and activists of various levels of BNP, its organs and associate organizations, the general public participated in it. The protesters chanted various slogans, ‘I want the doctor of the poor’, ‘Get rid of the Qazi, save the rice sheaf’. The area around Kaliganj became abuzz with slogans and protests. The speakers complained that Dr. Shahidul Alam is the leader of the people, the doctor of the poor. If he is not nominated, the Satkhira-3 constituency will be lost to the BNP. They demanded that the central decision be quickly reconsidered, the nomination of Kazi Alauddin be canceled and Dr. Shahidul Alam be nominated. At the rally, the leaders and activists said, our 7-day continuous program will be observed. The program will continue every day until the demand is met and if necessary, they said they will march towards the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
