In Kumarkhali, Kushtia, 3860 small and marginal farmers of the upazila are getting free fertilizer and seed assistance to increase crop cultivation and production in the Rabi season in the current season of 2025-26 fiscal year.
On Tuesday, free distribution of seeds and fertilizers of mustard, sunflower, peanut, onion, lentils, khesari, aurhar, gourd, brinjal, cucumber, red pepper, batishak, radish and sweet pumpkin among small and marginal farmers under the agricultural incentive program for the 2025-26 Rabi season was inaugurated. The inaugural ceremony of the seed and fertilizer distribution organized by the Kumarkhali Agricultural Extension Department on the premises of the Upazila Agricultural Office was held under the chairmanship of Kumarkhali Upazila Agricultural Officer Agriculturist Md. Raisul Islam as the chief guest. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Mikhail Islam was present at the time. Officers and employees of the Upazila Agricultural Office were present.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, under the Robi Incentive Program, seeds, DAP and MOP fertilizers are being provided to 3,860 small and marginal farmers of various crops in 1 municipality and 11 unions of the upazila in the fiscal year 2025-26.
3,860 small and marginal farmers in the upazila are receiving 2,340 mustard seeds, 40 sunflower seeds, 50 peanut seeds, 320 onion seeds, 550 lentil seeds, 90 khasari seeds, 40 arhar seeds and 430 gourd, brinjal, cucumber, red pepper, batishak, radish and sweet pumpkin seeds.
Meanwhile, officials of the Agriculture Department said that the fertilizer and seed distribution program of the incentive will be completed 100% across the upazila soon. The small and marginal farmers of the upazila who received free seeds and chemical fertilizers under the incentive are happy with this initiative of the government.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md. Raisul Islam said that farmers are getting free seeds and chemical fertilizer assistance under the incentive program. A part of their expenses are being reduced. He hopes that this will greatly increase crop cultivation and production.
