The business of bricks, sand, stones and trees is becoming bustling in Gournadi upazila by taking over the Barishal-Dhaka highway and regional roads.
Despite constant accidents, the administration is playing a mysterious role. This has created intense anger among the locals.
It has been seen on the ground that an influential group is carrying out a booming business by placing bricks, sand, stones and trees on the side of the road on various roads in the upazila, including the Gournadi-Agailjhara regional road, the Batajor-Sarikol road.
Several residents of the Sarikol area said that passengers travel on the busiest Batajor-Sarikol road every day in numerous small vehicles.
Local tree traders have been running their businesses by placing tree stumps on different parts of the road.
Local residents are suffering from accidents as well as suffering due to careless dumping of trees and bricks on the side of the road.
Local residents of Chandshi area said that a group has been running their businesses by placing bricks on the side of the road from Barek’s shop on the Gournadi-Agailjhara regional road to Mollabari stand.
In the meantime, several motorcyclists and easy bike passengers have been victims of accidents due to the pile of bricks.
Gournadi Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Municipal Administrator Md. Ibrahim said in this regard, “I was not aware of the matter.
A drive will be conducted soon and necessary measures will be taken.”
