Appointment and transfer of 6 judges of Cox’s Bazar district: District and Sessions Judge Abdur Rahim

Mohammad Abdur Rahim has been appointed as the new District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar.
Last Thursday (October 23), in a notification signed by Manjur Quader, Deputy Secretary (Administration-1) of the Judicial Branch-3 of the Law and Justice Department, 31 judges of the rank of District and Sessions Judge, including Mohammad Abdur Rahim, who was appointed as the new District and Sessions Judge in Cox’s Bazar, were posted to various courts of the country.
Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim, who was appointed in Cox’s Bazar, is a member of the 24th batch of BCS (Judicial) and the second batch of Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJSC). He joined the judiciary of Bangladesh as a fresh judge in 2006. He is currently serving as the Judge (District and Sessions Judge) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 in Noakhali. Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim, a resident of Sitakunda Upazila in Chittagong district, has previously served as the Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar and Judge (District and Sessions Judge) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3. His wife Jannatul Ferdous is also a judge. She is also currently serving as the Judge (District and Sessions Judge) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Noakhali. The important post of District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar has been vacant since the recently retired District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar, Munshi Abdul Majid, was transferred to Sylhet on August 28. Since then, Judge Mamunur Rashid of the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar Second Court has been performing additional duties of the Acting District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar. When the newly appointed Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim joins Cox’s Bazar, he will become the 19th District and Sessions Judge of Cox’s Bazar.
In the same notification, the current Judge (District and Sessions Judge) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 of Cox’s Bazar, S.M. Zillur Rahman, has been transferred to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Chittagong.
All the transferred judges have been asked to hand over the responsibilities of their current workplace to the judge mentioned in the notification and join the new workplace they have been transferred to by October 28. In addition, 3 more judges have been appointed and one judge has been transferred to Cox’s Bazar. The appointments and transfers were made in a separate notification signed by Manjur Quader, Deputy Secretary (Administration-1) of the Justice Branch-3 of the Law and Justice Department on Sunday (October 26). The 3 judges appointed to Cox’s Bazar are – Kazi Shariful Islam, the current Senior Assistant Judge of Kishoreganj, has been posted as the Senior Judicial Magistrate of the Kutubdia Chowki Court, Mohammad Alamgir, the Senior Judicial Magistrate of Sunamganj, has been posted as the Senior Assistant Judge of Cox’s Bazar, and Naogaon Assistant Judge Nazmul Hasan has been posted as the Senior Judicial Magistrate. On the other hand, Md. Omar Faruk, the current Senior Assistant Judge of Cox’s Bazar, has been transferred to the post of Senior Assistant Judge of Munshiganj.
