The upazila general election of the Motor Vehicle Workers Union branch of Durgapur Upazila Sramik Karmachari Union (Reg: No. 2574) has ended in a festive atmosphere.
Voting ended on Friday (24) October from 8 am to 4 pm. There was great enthusiasm among the voters and candidates surrounding the election. The number of voters in this election was 2949 voters.
Out of which 2831 voters cast their votes. In this election, 3 candidates contested for the post of President, 2 for the post of General Secretary, 2 for the post of Vice President and 3 for the post of Office Secretary. Out of these, the remaining 6 candidates were elected unopposed. Md. Sumon Mia participated in the election for the post of President on the symbol of bicycle and got 1176 votes.
Nurul Haque was elected as the general secretary with the wheel symbol by getting 1572 votes. Vice-president Md. Nazrul Islam was elected as the hurricane symbol by getting 1348 votes, and Md. Nojibur Rahman Saikat was elected as the office secretary with the pineapple symbol by getting 1203 votes.
Acting Election Commissioner Kazi Md. Ariful Islam said that the election of the Motor Vehicle Employees’ Union from 8 am to 4 pm on Friday ended in a peaceful atmosphere and in the presence of the police administration and journalists with the participation of all candidates. No untoward incident occurred. The election was conducted in a peaceful manner.
