Consuming water without BSTI approval can lead to waterborne diseases, even death. A sticker on a product recognized by BSTI means a mark of trust. When the consumer believes that this product or service can be accepted without hesitation.

However, where BSTI has not given any approval, permission, then no matter how small or large it is, crime experts believe that it is not only a fraud on the consumer but also on the entire government and the nation.

A bottled water business called “Drink Well” in Chandgaon Mohra Wasa in the city. Talking to the regional representative of this band in Bangladesh, it was learned that they have given responsibility to one person in the Chandgaon area, but the BSTI has expired. When asked if the factory runs on their band, the call was cut off, saying that they would inform their Chittagong representative.

The legality of this water business was discussed with a person named Manjur, the owner of the factory. He is currently in Dhaka and spoke to reporters on the phone.
The name of the company is actually Mrs/ West Bangladesh Limited. However, no such name was found on the company’s signboard, and when we went to the ground, we saw that there was no sign of such a name. When we went to the store, we saw broken, unclean bottles and a dirty environment.
There is no security system at the water bottling site.

When we went to the site, we saw that the water factory was being run by one employee. The owner said that there was another employee who is no longer there. The employee working in that factory blamed that there are many other water factories in this area that do not have any BSTI permission.

According to sources obtained by BSTI, in order to run such an institution, a BSTI license is mandatory, and the current license must be renewed within ninety days or three months, and if not, it will be considered expired and against the law.
Condition 8 of the license also states that if the license holder does not apply for renewal upon expiry, the previous license will be considered cancelled.

As of 07-09-2022, the validity was till 30-06-2025.
That is, there is a rule to apply for renewal three months before the expiry date. There, even after three months of expiry, the authorities have not taken any action.

A senior official of BSTI Chittagong said that a regular mobile court is being run against such institutions.
