Rally and Mass Campaign of the Nationalist Women’s Party Held in Sunamganj
A rally and mass campaign were held in Sunamganj in support of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point program for reforming the state structure and in favor of Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul, a nomination aspirant for the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol in Sunamganj-4 constituency.
The event took place at 11 a.m. on Thursday in front of the temporary office of the Bangladesh Nationalist Women’s Party, Sunamganj District Branch, located at the old bus station area of Sunamganj town.
Earlier in the morning, thousands of men and women joined the gathering in processions from various parts of Sunamganj Sadar and Bishwamberpur upazilas. The old bus station area echoed with slogans in favor of Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul, former General Secretary and current member of the Convening Committee of the Sunamganj District BNP.
A large procession was organized to promote the 31-point program and campaign, which paraded through the main streets of the town. Later, a women’s rally was held in front of the District BNP office, presided over by Lutfa Anwar, President of the Nationalist Women’s Party, Sunamganj District Branch, and conducted by Advocate Hafeza Ferdous Lipon, General Secretary of the same organization.
The chief guest at the event was Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul, former General Secretary and current member of the Convening Committee of the District BNP, and a nomination aspirant for the sheaf of paddy symbol in the upcoming National Parliament election for Sunamganj-4 (Sunamganj–Bishwamberpur) constituency.
Special guests who spoke at the rally included Akbar Ali, A.T.M Misbah, Advocate Masuk Alam, Advocate Sherenur Ali, Md. Rezaul Haque, Abul Kalam Azad, Nazrul Islam, former UP Chairman Md. Ful Mia, Sadar BNP Convener Faruk Ahmed Lilu, Member Secretary Abdur Rahim, District Jubo Dal Vice Presidents Suhel Ahmed and Kamrul Hasan Raju, Municipal BNP Convener Saifullah Hasan Juned, Senior Joint Convener Murshed Alam, District Women’s BNP Organizing Secretary Khadija Koli, Joint General Secretaries Rumi Begum and Runa Akhter, Publicity Secretary Monira Akhter Liza, Joint Secretary Laila Begum, Human Rights Secretary Sultana Ahmed Moni, Sadar Upazila Women’s BNP President Afsana Rahman Elsie, General Secretary Mursheda Uddin, Municipal Women’s BNP President Sabrina Jeny, General Secretary Marzia Begum, Bishwamberpur Upazila Women’s BNP leaders Nazma Akhter, Rahima Begum, and Sufia Akhter, as well as District Volunteer Force Convener Munazzir Hossain, Member Secretary Jahangir Alam, Joint Conveners Md. Sohel Mia, District Jubo Dal Joint Conveners Tofazzal Hossain, Mominul Haque Kalar Chan, and Shahjahan Mia, among others.
At the rally, the women leaders drew the attention of the party’s Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and central leaders, stating:
“There is no alternative to Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul if we want to ensure victory for the sheaf of paddy in Sunamganj-4 (Sunamganj Sadar–Bishwamberpur) constituency. Nurul Bhai has already earned a place in people’s hearts through his organizational skills and love for the people. We earnestly request the party policymakers to nominate Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul, the courageous leader who stood by the people during the party’s difficult times, as the BNP candidate.” In his speech, Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul said: “Our Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman mentioned in his 31-point program that once BNP comes to power, every household will receive a family card to empower women. Today’s rally and mass campaign are organized to promote this program. He further stated,“To restore democracy and voting rights in Bangladesh and to establish a transparent, constitutional, and institutional democratic process, we must reach out to the people with the 31-point program announced by our Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for the welfare of the nation. We must stand against injustice, oppression, and corruption and be by the side of the people in both joy and sorrow. If we can truly win people’s trust and love, our victory in the upcoming national election will be certain, Insha’Allah.”
