Silent famine underway in Bandarban: Kazi Md.Majibor Rahman
Kazi Md.Majibor Rahman,the Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizens Council (PCNP) has commented that a silent famine is underway in Bandarban.Kazi Majibor made these comments at a press conference organized to make a day-long strike in Bandarban district successful on Monday (October 13) with eight demands, including the repeal of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Administrative Code-1900,the cancellation of the Bomang king’s Charter and the re-establishment of the army camp.The press conference was held at 9:30 am on Thursday (October 9) in the conference room of Hotel Grand Valley in Bandarban Sadar.
At this time Kazi Md.Majibor Rahman said, “In the Chittagong Hill Tracts,we the Bengali community have been victims of various types of discrimination and deprived of constitutional rights for generations”. Therefore,On behalf of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizns’ Council and the people of all walks of life,we are calling for an all-out strike in Bandarban from morning to evening on Monday,13 October with an 8-point demand to realize our constitutional and just rights.
The eight Point demands are-1.To repeal the Chittagong Hill Tracts Administrative Code-1900 made during the British period and to introduce the administrative system of the three hill districts in the light of the constitution.2.To abolish the king certificate system in the fields of land purchase and sale,employment and education.3.To introduce land purchase and sale and land management in Rangamati,Khagrachari and Bandarban like other districts.4.To increase the lease term of market fund plots to 99 years and to re-open closed bank loans.5.To establish environmentally friendly brick kilns, factories and industries for the sake of development and employment.6.To restore 246 withdrawn army camps for the sake of maintaining law and order and security.7.To arrest terrorists by recovering illegal weapons,to stop extortion,disappearances, murder and rape and to establish lasting peace.8.To ensure equal rights and justice by eliminating discrimination in education, health,business and employment.
At this time,Kazi Majibor Rahman also said, We want justice.We have expressed our demands many times before,but there has been no progress.Initially a strike has been called only in Bandarban.This movement will be intensified in the future.However,vehicles of colleges,government offices and courts,government officials,ambulances, food shops,drug stores,law enforcement vehicles,vehicles of print and electronic media news providers and vehicles of exam candidates will be exempt from the strike.
