Protest and human chain against S Alam Group in Joypurhat
Yesterday at 10 am, a human chain and protest rally was held in Joypurhat on the town’s main road with the initiative of the Islami Bank Customer Forum demanding the immediate cancellation of the appointments of the officers and employees illegally appointed by S Alam Group. The speakers in this program said that since S Alam took over Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, 8,340 people including potter’s shopkeepers, house helpers, auto drivers, mason’s assistants, painters, and uneducated and semi-educated people have been recruited with fake certificates in exchange for a large sum of money without advertisement and examination, and various irregularities have been protested in Joypurhat. Islami Bank customers and Joypurhat Poly Bidyut Samity President Belal Hossain Molla, Principal Abdul Hakim, Purba Bazar Cloth Traders Association President Ahsan Habib, Professor Nazrul Islam, Engineer Abdul Baten, Engineer Golam Mortuza, Enamul Haque Akanda, job seekers Piarul Islam and Imran Hossain Jewel, among others, addressed during a human chain on Sadar Road in Joypurhat town on Monday at 10 am. The speakers in the human chain said that the bank’s annual loss due to these officials illegally appointed by S Alam is estimated to be more than Tk 1,500 crore. Accordingly, the bank has suffered a loss of more than TK 10,000 crore in 7 years. In one hand, the bank has lost more than TK one lakh crore, on the other hand, it is almost impossible for Islami Bank to move forward while carrying the burden of such huge expenses due to illegal appointments. Therefore, they demanded that these illegal appointments be cancelled immediately, and the bank be protected from losses.
