Case filed in Rangpur over death threats by sending shrouds to journalist
The victim journalist has filed a case with Pirganj Police Station over the death threats by sending shrouds to Rangpur’s My TV correspondent Mahmudul Hasan for publishing investigative news.
In this incident, on September 26, 2025, 4 people including the acting principal of Pirganj Technical Training Center Mohibul Islam, the branch manager of Sundarban Courier Service, have been made accused in the case, and 5-6 unknown people have also been made accused.
It is worth noting that on the afternoon of April 29, 2025, two parcels arrived in the name of the correspondent at the courier service.
It contained two shrouds and two printed letters. The letters contained death threats.

The shroud and letters were sent from Gobindaganj in Gaibandha and Gangachara in Rangpur.
The sender’s address uses the name and phone number of another journalist from Pirganj, Milon.
One envelope of the letter reads, “I have suffered a lot because of you.

Eat your favorite food properly, you haramkhor.” The other envelope reads, “The job of the shop owner is basically to play with fire all the time, your time is up, the game will end when you find Mithapukur or a convenient place in Rangpur. The waiting time has begun.” While uncovering the incident, it was found that although the Gobindaganj Sundarban Courier Service had preserved the entire day’s CCTV footage, the CCTV footage from the middle of the parcel booking period had disappeared.
Although the name and address of the parcel booker were used, the Sundarban Courier Service officials did not preserve his voter ID card.
The name and phone number used in the booking belonged to a journalist. The branch manager could not give much answer about the booking and CCTV footage.
Earlier, journalist Mahmudul Hasan and three other news workers were attacked while collecting news at a factory manufacturing fake cow dung in Chatra, Pirganj Upazila, Rangpur.
The victim journalist Mahmudul Hasan told the reporter on the phone that he had written several reports on various irregularities and corruption against the acting principal of Pirganj Technical Training Center and that his wife and various people had forbidden him from publishing any news about him and had also threatened him.
Even two days before filing the case, he had told one of my colleagues that he would not be able to do anything by filing a case in my name.
He should have handled it later, he is a journalist after all.

I request the administration to conduct a fair investigation and arrest the accused in the case as soon as possible.
Rangpur Reporters Club and Rangpur Union of Journalists (RPUJ) General Secretary Sarkar Mazharul Mannan said that journalists The miscreants have threatened to kill journalists at various times to silence their voices, which has a huge impact on independent journalism.
These miscreants must be arrested and brought under the law to ensure the freedom of journalists.’
At that time, he demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in this incident.
Liaqat Ali Badal, member secretary of the United Journalists’ Association, said that if the attacks on journalists continue like this across the country, good people will not want to come to this profession.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station Shafiqul Islam said that a case has been filed in this incident and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
