A king hilsa weighing 2.5 kg was sold for 14,000 taka in Mahipur, Patuakhali. The fish was sold at the Faisal Fish Market of the Mahipur Fisheries on Thursday (September 25) morning, when a crowd gathered to see the fish. Fisherman Shahid Majhi said that this big hilsa was caught along with other fish while fishing for hilsa. The fish weighs 2 kg 500 grams. When the fish was brought to the Faisal Fish Market in the morning, fish trader Ishtiaq bought it at an auction for 14,000 taka. The owner of the Faisal Fish Market, Md. Mehedi Faisal, said that large-sized hilsa is not usually available. The fish was sold in the open market through open auction at a price of 5,600 taka per kg for 14,000 taka. Buyer Ishtiaq said, I bought the huge Hilsa fish caught in the Bay of Bengal in the hope of making a profit, I will send the fish to Dhaka. The number of large Hilsa in the sea is very small. The fish has been sold for a lot of money due to its large size. Even if they do not catch many fish, fishermen are very happy if they catch one or two such fish. Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said, large Hilsa mainly brings good news for fishermen. Along with deep-sea fishermen, coastal fishermen are also now catching large Hilsa. The amount of Hilsa is increasing day by day. This can also be said to be the benefit of the 58-day ban.
