Nizam Uddin Ahmed, a 33rd batch officer of the BCS (Administration) cadre, has taken charge as the new Acting Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Cox’s Bazar. On Sunday (September 21) morning, outgoing Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin handed over the responsibility to him at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. According to a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration, BCS 27th batch officer Md. A. Mannan (16271) will join as the 26th Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar very soon. He is currently serving as the Private Secretary to the Chairman of the National Pay Commission. If he joins Cox’s Bazar, he will take over the permanent responsibility of the Deputy Commissioner. Earlier, outgoing Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin was posted as the Joint Secretary of the National Pay Commission. He joined Cox’s Bazar on August 12 last year and served as the 25th Deputy Commissioner for one year and 10 days. On the other hand, Acting DC Nizam Uddin Ahmed is handling five important responsibilities of the Cox’s Bazar district administration simultaneously. Currently, he is serving as Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management), Deputy Director of the Local Government Department, Administrator of Cox’s Bazar Municipality and newly Acting Deputy Commissioner. Nizam Uddin Ahmed joined the BCS cadre in 2014. He started his career as an Assistant Commissioner in the Sunamganj District Administration and later served as the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Ukhia and Noakhali Sadar of Cox’s Bazar. On June 9, 2024, he joined the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar. In addition to his professional duties, he has completed his Masters in Public Administration from a renowned university in the UK. The expectations of the people of Cox’s Bazar are that, in light of his versatile experience, the new DC will make the administrative activities of the district more dynamic and service-oriented.
