Smuggling has increased at a massive rate in Teknaf, a border town of Cox’s Bazar. Along with this, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is also playing an active role in curbing smuggling. BGB said that the operation was conducted under the leadership of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ashikur Rahman under the direction of Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, PBGM, BGBMS, AC. It is reported that a huge quantity of yaba tablets and 12 human traffickers including a yaba smuggler have been arrested in two separate operations. BGB sources further said that on September 17 at 7.20 am, based on a secret information, a patrol team of 2 BGB established a temporary check post in the area adjacent to the house of Jafar Chairman on the old Marine Drive Road adjacent to the tourist intersection. At that time, a private car (Chattmetro-G-15-2139) going from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar was stopped and a search operation was conducted. At that time, due to the suspicious behavior and movements of the passengers in the private car, a thorough search was started inside the car. On the eve of the search, 02 gas cylinders were observed inside the private car. Among them, when a gas cylinder was found suspicious, the gas cylinder was taken to a local lathe shop and cut. 44,400 pieces of Yaba tablets stored in a unique way inside the gas cylinder were recovered and the smugglers, Md. Yasin (39), son of Mohammad Abdullah of Teknaf, and Rahmat Ullah (29), son of Abu Samad, and a private car, 2 Android phones, and 1 button phone mobile were seized. Meanwhile, 12 human traffickers were arrested in a special operation by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf Upazila. In the interest of humanity and the security of the country, the zero tolerance policy of Border Guard Bangladesh against any criminal activities at the border and drug and human trafficking/smuggling will continue.
