A successful undercover  operation of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Assistant Revenue Officer arrested with bribe money.

A team of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Chittagong-1 Integrated District Office conducted a drive at the Customs House, Chittagong on Tuesday.

It was alleged that when Amir Hossain, proprietor of Homeland Plastic Sew Industries, submitted the necessary documents for the clearance of BREAK ACRYLIC MIXED PLASTIC WASTE AND SCRAP (value 6,428.10 US dollars, HS Code: 3915.90.00) imported from Japan, Assistant Revenue Officers Rajib Roy and Md. Charwar Uddin of Customs Section-7(B) deliberately harassed him and demanded an additional bribe of Tk 30,000/- beyond the prescribed rate and threatened to delay the clearance of the goods and sell them at auction if the money was not paid.

In view of the said threat, the proprietor of Homeland Plastic Industry, Mr. Amir Hossain, informed the Anti-Corruption Commission, Chittagong office about the corrupt bribe demand of the revenue officials. The District Office of the Commission, Chittagong-1, took the initiative to arrest the bribe-demanding revenue officials of the Customs Department red-handed in the light of the relevant laws and rules and obtained the approval of the Commission in this regard.

During the operation, a special team of the ACC observed the bribe transaction undercover in the wake of the complaint. At that time, Assistant Revenue Officer Rajib Roy and his companion Mainuddin were arrested red-handed with a bribe of Tk 30,000/-.

After the operation, all legal activities including preparation of a seizure list of evidence, recording the statements of witnesses, and completion of all legal activities, a case has been registered and the arrested persons have been handed over to the police station. During the investigation of the case, other accused involved in the said crime will be brought to justice.
