The three dirt roads in Ayubpur and Sahapur villages adjacent to Patharghata Bridge in Ward 06 of the traditional first-class Noakhali Municipality established in 1876 have not been touched by development. Thousands of people have been suffering on these roads, which have been unusable for a long time.
On Monday (September 8) morning, locals formed a human chain and protested demanding the immediate construction of the main road and two branch dirt roads in Ayubpur and Sahapur of the upazila. The following spoke at the human chain and protest program: Journalist Jahangir Alam, president of the local Dattabari Mor Business Association, social worker Akbar Hossain Jabed, BNP leader Md. Sahab Uddin, Imam of Patharghata Jame Mosque Maulana Masum Billah, and many others.
At this time, the speakers complained, One hundred and forty-nine years have passed since the establishment of Noakhali Municipality.
For the last 50 years, people in this area have been moving on the dirt roads of Ayubpur and Sahapur. During the rainy season, it becomes difficult to move in knee-deep mud. It also becomes difficult for students to go to educational institutions and take patients to hospitals. Journalist Jahangir Alam, president of the Dattabari Mor Business Association, said that it is shameful that despite being residents of a first-class municipality, the people of this area still have to move on dirt roads in mud and water.
Students often get into accidents while moving on these roads.
Heavy vehicles cannot enter the area, due to which the quality of life of the people of the area is still neglected.
He demanded that the administration take initiatives to quickly construct the roads. Local social worker Akbar Hossain Javed complained, promises are only on paper, there is no work in reality.
Even though development is being done with the people’s tax money, we are deprived. In the past years, no initiative has been taken to build these roads, which are our fundamental rights.
Keeping in mind the improvement of the quality of life of the people of this area, we are demanding from the administration that arrangements be made to quickly construct the main roads of Ayubpur and Sahapur along with the two branch roads.
Hundreds of men and women, businessmen and students participated in the human chain and protest program.
They said that if the three roads are not constructed immediately, a larger movement will be announced.
