Chottogram Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession: Two dead, several injured

Two people died and several others were injured after falling sick and being trampled in a crowd during the Jashne Julus rally in Chottogram on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.
The deceased were identified as Ayub Ali (60) from Patiya upazila and Saiful Islam (13) from Kalamia Bazar area in the port city.
The incident occurred around 12:00pm on Saturday (September 6) in the Muradpur area of the city.
Nurul Alam Ashique, in-charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, said Ayub Ali collapsed due to excessive heat during the procession. He was rushed to CMCH where doctors declared him dead.
Saiful Islam, the teenage boy, was first admitted to ward no. 2 after sustaining injuries in the stampede. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the ICU where he later died. His body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
In addition, 7–8 others were injured after being trapped in the crowd and when a makeshift wooden bridge over a drain collapsed. One of the injured remains in the ICU.
Members of the Anjuman-e-Rahmania Trust medical team, who took the injured to the hospital, said several participants fell unconscious in the heat and chaos, leading to trampling injuries.
