A press conference was held by the victim’s husband against his cheating wife, Fatema Akhtar, who is accused of running away with her estranged lover, Sheikh Farid Ikram, a Singapore expatriate, with cash and gold ornaments. The press conference was held at the southern head office of the Bangladesh Journalists Club (BJC) in Jolirpar, Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj on Wednesday (September 3) afternoon. At the press conference, the victim’s husband (a Singaporean expatriate), Sheikh Farid Ikram, said, “I am an expatriate.” I have been working for a company in Singapore for 17 years. While I was working in Singapore, I came to Bangladesh and on 17/12/2018, I got married to Fatema Akhtar (32), the daughter of the late Abul Basar Munshi and Reshma Begum, residents of Jhutigram, Muksudpur Upazila, Gopalganj, through my wife’s cousin Md. Ariful Islam, in a familial and social sense. While I was in Singapore, my cheating wife Fatema Akhter got into an affair with Masud Rana (38), father Mahbub, Sang-Rahman Villa, Great Wall City Gazipur Chowrasta, from Bangladesh. I came to Bangladesh on vacation from Singapore on 06/08/2024. After returning to the country, I sat down at my home in Paschim Nawkhonda village, Muksudpur upazila, Gopalganj, and gave an advance deposit of Tk 20 lakh in cash to my sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and my wife’s elder sister Rima Akhter to purchase 3 kathas of land next to my in-laws’ house in Gazipur. They embezzled all my hard-earned money without buying the land. Later, I went to my in-laws’ house in Gazipur to settle the land issue while my wife was staying at my village house. After I left home, she ran away with her estranged boyfriend, Masud Rana. At that time, he fled with 140,000 taka in cash and approximately 595,000 taka worth of gold ornaments in my house. At this time, other witnesses arrived at the scene at the sound of my mother’s screams and tried to stop my wife from leaving the house, but failed. Later, I was convinced that she defied everyone’s orders and ran away with her estranged lover, Masud Rana. As an expatriate, I earnestly appeal to the government to promptly return my hard-earned cash, gold ornaments, and other belongings, and to bring the accused to justice. In this regard, the victim has filed two petition cases in the Muksudpur Administrative Court, which are currently pending, the victim said.
