The complaint has been filed against Md. Insan Mia, secretary of Maghan-Siyadhar Union Parishad in Mohanganj Upazila of the district. For the past year, he has been defrauding ordinary people, including businessmen, local leaders, and union council members, of money. Among these, he has been absent from the council for the last two months after embezzling lakhs of taka from fakirs and helpless people by promising to provide VWB project cards, maternity allowances, submersibles, TCB cards, and tubewells to the beneficiaries, including 6 lakh taka for the council’s tax, 2 lakh taka for birth registration, and 22 thousand taka for the cowshed of the 9 wards of the council. Hundreds of beneficiaries come to the council every day, causing problems for the union residents in accessing various benefits, including birth and death registration. It is alleged that Ahad Mia of Sirampasha village was promised a submersible for Tk 45,000. 200,000 taka for VWB project card from Shamsu Mia of Siyadhar village, 30,000 taka for tube well to Sunny Moya of Futioga village, 35,000 taka for tube well to Shamim Mia of Siyadhar village, 30,000 taka for tube well to Dr. Momen Mia of Kushimul Bazar submersible, 45,000 taka for TCB card and motor on land from Jharna Akhtar Maijhati village, 1,500,000 taka from Bablu Master, owner of Mohanganj Municipality, 15,000 taka for tube well to Mukhlesur Rahman of Betam village, 17,000 taka for tube well from Maju Mia of Manshiri village, 17,000 taka for tube well to Aftab Mia, UP member of ward no. 8, 45,000 taka from ward BNP leader Nazrul Mia. He took 25,000 taka from Ward No. 6 President Rahmat Ali in the name of providing two tubewells. They extorted Tk 10,000 from petrol trader Aziz and Tk 27,000 from Ruman Mia of Nawhal village under the pretext of giving him a submersible. In this way, they have embezzled about 20 lakh taka from hundreds of beneficiaries in 20 villages of Maghan Siyadhar Union No. 4 of the upazila. When the victims call, they say that the family is sick, that they are training in Dhaka, and that someone is telling them that the party has a leader. If they call, they will file a case in court. In this way, they are threatening the creditors. According to government office sources, the Union Parishad secretary of Maghan Siyadhar was transferred to Kullagara Union Parishad in Durgapur Upazila on Sunday. Swapna Akhter Akhter, a reserved member of ward 1.2.3 of the Parishad, said that UP secretary Insan Mia has been absconding with the money of hundreds of people for the last two months. Hundreds of people come to the council every day for money, but they cannot find the secretary. When contacted by mobile phone, the council secretary, Inchan Mia, said that he did not take money from anyone. Regarding the corruption of the secretary of the Maghan Union Parishad in Siyadhar, Mohanganj Upazila Executive Officer Amena Khatun said that appropriate legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
