Ahead of the Union BNP conference in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj, BNP leader Abdus Samad Munsi protested against a smear campaign through a press conference.
On Saturday noon, at the Sunamganj Press Club auditorium, Abdus Samad Munsi a candidate for the post of General Secretary of the BNP in Uttar Sreepur Union of Tahirpur upazila, condemned the propaganda.
He said, “Two rival leaders, Shamsul Haque and Kamal Hossain, have been running a politically motivated campaign branding me as an ally of fascism. During the Awami League regime, I myself was subjected to various forms of persecution. I claim that those two leaders involved in the smear campaign have long maintained collusion with the Awami League. They took privileges, campaigned for the Awami League in different elections, greeted Awami League leaders with flowers, and even offered wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Mujib on August 15. I became a candidate for General Secretary because the grassroots activists want me in this role. We expect that leadership will emerge through fair competition. But personal slander is not acceptable.” He further said, “The allegation brought against me regarding amassing houses, cars, and enormous wealth is completely baseless. I am a businessman, an importer. Every penny I earn is documented in income tax returns. Beyond that, I have no assets outside my legitimate income. I strongly condemn the false and baseless propaganda against me.”
Present at the press conference were Jubo Dal leaders Anwar Hossain and Nazir Hossain.
