After 11 long years, the biennial conference of Netrokona District BNP will be held tomorrow, August 30.
There is a festive atmosphere among the leaders and activists surrounding the conference.
The district town is covered with banners, festoons, and arches.
The conference will begin at 11 am at the historic Moktarpara ground in the district town.
A total of five candidates are contesting for the positions of president and general secretary at the conference.
A total of 1,515 councilors from 15 organizational units in 10 upazilas and 5 municipalities, each with 101 members, will directly determine the new leadership by exercising their voting rights.
According to party sources, the last district BNP conference was held
October 25, 2014.
At that conference, freedom fighter Md. Ashraf Uddin Khan was elected as the president, eminent orthopedic physician Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque as the general secretary, and SM Moniruzzaman Dudu as the organizing secretary.
Later, as the committee’s term expired, the district committee was dissolved and the party was run by a 67-member convening committee with Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque as the convener and Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Hilali as the member secretary.
The biennial conference is being held again after 11 long years.
The current convener of the district BNP, eminent orthopedic physician Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque (umbrella), and former general secretary of the district BNP, GP Advocate Mahfuzul Haque (chair symbol), are contesting for the post of president at the conference.
District BNP member secretary Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Hilali (Fish), joint convener, is contesting for the post of general secretary.
SM Moniruzzaman Dudu (football) and former 1st Senior Vice President of the District Youth League Md. Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony (bull cart).
According to district BNP sources, acting chairman Tarique Rahman will be participating in this conference as the chief guest through virtual.
BNP Standing Committee member Md. Salah Uddin Ahmed will inaugurate the event.
Election Commissioner Advocate MA Awal Selim said that the leadership for the two positions will be elected through direct voting by the councilors.
All preparations have already been made to conduct the conference smoothly and successfully at the Moktarpara field.
Party leaders said that there is a great deal of enthusiasm and a festive atmosphere among the leaders and workers as the conference is being held after a long time.
Presidential candidates Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque and Advocate Mahfuzul Haque and General Secretary candidates Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali, S.M. Moniruzzaman Dudu and Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony have sought prayers and votes from leaders, activists and councilors at all levels, emphasizing their contribution, dynamic leadership and qualifications in the anti-dictatorship movement.
