Upazila leaders of the National Citizens Party (NCP) held a press conference to protest against the propaganda and human chain surrounding the organization of a healthy recreational small industrial product fair in Jaldhaka, Nilphamari. The press conference was held at the upazila NCP office on Thursday afternoon. Jaldhaka Upazila Chief Coordinator Rezaul Karim Raju read out a written statement at the press conference. District Joint Coordinator Mohaimenur Rahman Sana, Ahsan Habib Ruksi and others were present at the time. In his written statement, Rezaul Karim Raju said, “We are organizing a healthy fair. Our main goal is to show the ‘July Documentary’ capturing the memory of July-2024 and introduce all the martyrs and injured in the district in the July Movement. The people of Jaldhaka have been deprived of entertainment for a long time, so this effort is for them. But a party asked us for 10 stalls. We expressed our inability to provide it in accordance with the rules and regulations. That is why some people formed a human chain yesterday under the banner of the local civil society. We consider that human chain to be a baseless and unreasonable demand.” At the same time, the organizers also confirmed that there would be no drugs, gambling, lotteries, or obscenity at the fair. When asked about the permission for the fair, NCP leaders told reporters that they have permission. However, they did not say anything about whether it was written or verbal permission. Incidentally, the fair will be inaugurated from September 1st under the initiative of the Upazila Jatiya Nagorik Party. Meanwhile, the organizers said that the preparation work is almost in the final stage.
