The World Breastfeeding Week-2025 was observed in Joypurhat with the theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding, Build Sustainable Support System”.
On Monday at 11:30 am, a rally organized by the Public Health Nutrition Institute and initiated by Joypurhat Civil Surgeon’s Office to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week started from the Civil Surgeon’s Office and ended at the same place after circumambulating the main road. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the District Civil Surgeon’s Office. Joypurhat Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Al Mamun presided over the discussion meeting, which was addressed by Sardar Rashed Mobarak, Superintendent of Joypurhat 250-beded general hospital, sadar upazila family planning officer Dr. Tulshi Chandra Roy, assistant director of Joypurhat Family Planning Office Zakaria Hossain and many others. Many officials of health department, local newsmen, doctors, nurses and others were present at the meeting.
It was informed at the meeting that Bangladesh is far behind in breastfeeding. In future, we will have to increase public awareness and motivate everyone to breastfeed. Then we will be able to increase the percentage of breastfeeding among ordinary mothers in our country to above 50 percent. In this regard, the cooperation of all classes of citizens of society along with health workers is sought.
