DIG Apel Mahmud praised for leading crackdown on illegal spas and hotels in Cox’s Bazar

At the monthly welfare meeting of the Cox’s Bazar Tourism Police last July, Additional DIG Apel Mahmud told the officers, “Developing professional skills and working environment is essential for us.” “We must ensure the utmost safety of tourists and maintain a compassionate and professional attitude towards them.” The meeting specifically highlighted the importance of responsibility, caution, and humane behavior. In the same month, when three students of Chittagong University drowned in the Himchhari sea, Additional DIG Apel Mahmud directly supervised the rescue operation. The search for the missing continues with the cooperation of the fire service, tourism police, and lifeguards. “Ultimate vigilance and coordination have been maintained during the rescue operation. The safety of tourists and locals is our priority,” he said. In addition, Additional DIG Apel Mahmud emphasized the promotion of sports to keep the youth away from drugs and violence. While inaugurating the Beach Tchoukball sports training in July, he said, “Sports are essential for physical and mental development. “It helps keep young people on the right path.” Furthermore, he participated in the ‘Creators of Cox’ meetup organized with digital content creators in Cox’s Bazar and assured support for creative initiatives and future cooperation. On 14 August 2025, Cox’s Bazar Tourism Police, led by Additional DIG Apel Mahmud, conducted raids at various spa centers and hotels in the city. Unauthorized activities and illegal equipment were recovered during the raids. He clearly stated in the media, “To protect the image of the tourist city, no illegal activities will be tolerated.” “We will always be vigilant to ensure the safety of tourists.” Local residents and tourists have praised his initiative. According to them, law and order and tourist safety in Cox’s Bazar have become stronger under the leadership of Additional DIG Apel Mahmud. A tourist said, “With him, it feels safe to come to Cox’s Bazar.
