Creating safe and inclusive spaces for women is crucial for achieving sustainable development – Syeda Rizwana Hasan

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, emphasized the critical importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces for women to achieve sustainable development and social justice. She stated that the government is actively working to end violence against women and promote gender-responsive policies.
The Environment Advisor made these remarks during a meeting with Ms. Gitanjali Singh, Country Representative of UN Women, at the Ministry of Environment, Bangladesh Secretariat, today.
They also discussed a wide range of priority issues, including the challenges within the care economy, enhancing women’s leadership, and combating sexual harassment in both the public and private sectors.
Both parties agreed to strengthen their collaboration in these areas to achieve sustainable development and climate resilience. The discussion also highlighted the need for coordinated action among the government, international partners, and civil society to accelerate progress toward a more inclusive and equitable society.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to fortify the partnership between the Government of Bangladesh and UN Women. Their goal is to promote gender justice, amplify women’s voices in decision-making, and create an environment where women can thrive, free from violence and discrimination.
