A human chain program was held to protest the killing of Tuhin. In response to the brutal murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, the Gazipur correspondent of the Daily Pratidin Kagoj, at around 8:30 pm last Thursday, the Bangladesh Press Club Netrokona district branch organized a human chain and protest meeting at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Netrokona on Tuesday, August 12 at 10:30 am. The human chain and protest meeting was held under the chairmanship of journalist Shamim Talukder, President of Bangladesh Press Club Mymensingh Division. Sumon Ahmed, Convener of Bangladesh Press Club Barhatta District, moderated the meeting. The speakers included journalist Monayem Khan, organizing secretary of the Haor Bachao Andolan Central Committee, journalist Asaduzzaman Talukder, publicity and publication secretary of the District Press Club Hafizullah Chowdhury Alim, general secretary of the Bangladesh Press Club Netrokona district branch Mohiuddin Talukder, president of the 90s Mass Uprising Islamic Bir Senani Command, Netrokona branch Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Jewel, Ariful Haque, former joint general secretary of the Sadar Upazila student party Mohammad Manik Talukder, Amjad Hossain, and third gender protest voice Shamima Akhter, among others. Speakers at the human chain and protest meeting strongly demanded a swift, fair and impartial investigation and that those responsible be held accountable according to the law. The speakers said that journalists are also being harassed with false cases. They demanded an end to the false cases and exemplary punishment for those involved in the murder of journalist Tuhin. The speakers said that incidents of violence against journalists are increasing day by day. There is a deep concern about the safety of journalism. The interim government has the responsibility to conduct a prompt, thorough, independent and impartial investigation into the murder of journalist Tuhin and the false cases and attacks on journalists, and to bring those responsible to justice. The increase in incidents of violence against journalists is worrying. This must be stopped immediately. He also demanded the arrest of the accused in the journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin murder case and the submission of a chargesheet within 15 days.
