Saturday Joypurhat Press Club organized a human chain and protest meeting at Zero Point in the town in protest of killing of Daily Pratidin Kagoj staff reporter Asaduzzaman Tuhin and the serious injury of the correspondent of Daily Bangladesher Alo Anwar Hossain.
Press Club President Abu Bakar Siddique, Senior Vice President Mashrequl Alam, Secretary Masud Rana, Senior Journalist Shahabuddin Ahmed, Daily Morning Glory Correspondent Nazrul Islam, Jamuna TV Correspondent Abdul Alim, Desh TV Correspondent Rezaul Karim Reza, DBC News Correspondent Shamim Kadio, 71 TV Correspondent Moazzem Hossain and other journalists spoke in the hour-long program.
The speakers said that journalists are not protected under any government. Journalists have been victims of attacks, lawsuits and murders under all governments. But none of them have been tried till to date. Journalists have no friends. When news is published, if someone is in favor, they thank him. If someone is against, they blame the journalists. We demand justice for all the journalists who have been killed since the past and we call for government assistance to the families of the deceased journalists. We also demand that the government ensure security to protect the working environment of journalists in the present time.
