7 members of the same family die after microbus falls into canal in Noakhali

Seven members of the same family, expatriates from Oman, died after a microbus lost control and fell into a canal in Begumganj, Noakhali. The accident occurred around 5:30 am on Wednesday (August 6) in the Gajdishpur area of East Chandaganj on the Noakhali to Lakshmipur road. The deceased are Bahar Uddin’s mother Morshida (55), sister-in-law Labani (30), nieces Resmi (8) and Lamia (9), Faizunnesa, daughter Mim, wife Kabita (24) and elderly grandmother (80), who are expatriates in Oman. They are residents of Paschim Chowpalli village in Hajipara union of Lakshmipur district. Chandraganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed this information. Police and locals said that a microbus carrying an expatriate family returning from Dhaka Airport lost control and fell into a canal on the side of the road in the Gajdishpur area of East Chandaganj around 5:30 am. Seven people died in this. Later, locals recovered the bodies and took them to various hospitals in Noakhali, where the doctors on duty declared them dead. Chandraganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan further said that the microbus driver has been absconding since the incident. The microbus involved in the accident has been seized and brought to the police station. The accident occurred because the driver was sleepy. The bodies are being handed over to the families after completing legal procedures. A case is being filed in this incident.
