A fishing trawler named FB Sagarkanya sank in the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata in Patuakhali. After floating at sea for four days, nine fishermen were rescued by two other trawlers. Six fishermen, Abdur Rashid, Nazrul Islam, Rafiq, Idris, Harun and Kalam, are still missing.
The injured fishermen were admitted to Kalapara Hospital early Tuesday morning. Earlier, the incident occurred at around 10 am last Friday at a depth of 75 kilometers off the last buoy in the Bay of Bengal.
The rescued fishermen said that on Thursday morning, Abdur Rashid Majhi along with 15 fishermen took the trawler from Mahipur to the deep sea. On Friday morning, after casting their nets 75 kilometers offshore, their trawler suddenly capsized and sank due to a storm and rough waves. One of them was missing during this time.
When 14 of them started floating with the help of bamboo and flutes, 5 more people got lost in the process. Later, when they reached the last buoy area, two trawlers rescued the nine fishermen last night.
Mahmud Hasan, OC of Mahipur Police Station, said that on July 26, the owner of the trawler, Kishore Hawlader, filed a general diary in the jail, mentioning him as missing. 9 people have been rescued, we are trying to find the remaining 6 missing fishermen.
