Noakhali city submerged in 3 hours of rain, suffering at its peak
Noakhali Correspondent
Noakhali city has been submerged in water again after three hours of continuous torrential rain due to the influence of monsoon winds.
58 millimeters of rainfall was recorded from 12 noon to 3 pm on Monday (July 28).
Various parts of the main road of Noakhali district, as well as the streets of the city and alleys, have been submerged in such rain.
Even many business establishments and houses have been submerged in water.
Due to the slow rate of water receding, water has also risen in the roads and some houses, government and semi-government offices of the district city, and the entrances of many educational institutions.
Due to this, the waterlogging has disrupted service activities, and the suffering of the common people of Noakhali municipality and the low-lying areas has also reached its peak.
Lal Mia, a resident of Begumganj Upazila, said that for the past 20 days, water has accumulated in the roads and courtyards of houses in various unions including Eklashpur Union, Hajipur Union, Durgapur Union and Narottampur Union of Begumganj Upazila of the district, causing waterlogging.
Due to this, local people are forced to travel by boat.
On the other hand, due to continuous rain, waterlogging has occurred in various areas including the stadium area of the district town Maijdi, Islamia Road, Town Hall Intersection Road, and Paur Bazar Road.
Locals complain that the lack of adequate drainage system and the filling of water drainage channels and water bodies are the cause of this suffering of the city residents. Many are blaming the apathy of the authorities.
Officer-in-charge of the District Meteorological Office Md. Rafiqul Islam said that 58 millimeters of rainfall was recorded from 12 noon to 3 pm.
Due to the influence of monsoon winds, there may be heavy rain intermittently for another 3-4 days.
