Two trains collide in Lalmonirhat

Two coaches of a Dhaka-bound train named Lalmoni Express derailed and overturned in a head-on collision due to a signal fault in Lalmonirhat.
This caused extensive damage to the engine and several passengers were injured.
A head-on collision occurred between a local train and Lalmoni Express in the BDR Gate area north of the Lalmonirhat Divisional Railway Station at around 2 pm on Monday (July 28). The number of injured has not yet been confirmed.
It is learned that a local train coming from Burimari Land Port in Patgram Upazila of the district was entering Lalmonirhat Railway Station when the Dhaka-bound Lalmoni Express train was heading towards the washpit. Due to a signal fault, the two trains collided head-on.
As a result, the engine of Lalmoni Express was damaged and two coaches overturned, injuring several passengers.
Upon receiving the news, the fire service and the army quickly reached the spot and started a rescue operation and the injured were quickly shifted to the hospital.
When contacted, Lalmonirhat Railway Station Master Nur Nabi refused to comment on the matter.
He said that details will be officially announced after the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised questions among the locals about the railway’s signal system and safety management.
There has been a demand to determine the cause and responsibility of the incident through an investigation.
Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station OC Mamun Hasan confirmed the truth of the incident and said that it is not possible to say why such an incident happened without an investigation.
