Debhata coordinator Mujahid bin Firoz expelled for misdeeds
Satkhira Correspondent
The Satkhira District Committee of the organization has permanently expelled Mujahid bin Firoz, the convener of the Debhata Upazila branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The decision was announced in a notification signed by the organization’s district convener Arafat Hossain on July 23 (Wednesday).
The notification said that Mujahid bin Firoz was involved in activities that were against the organization’s policies and organizational discipline. Such behavior by a senior leader is against the organization’s image and internal discipline and is in no way acceptable. In this context, according to the decision of the district committee, he has been permanently expelled from the organization along with the convener’s post. It is to be noted that the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement is a progressive organization made up of young people, which works for fairness, equality and social justice.
There are further allegations that on the late night of July 16, a camouflaged procession wearing helmets and masks took out in the darkness of night in the Chinedanga area of Sakhipur union in Debhata upazila. They chanted various provocative slogans including ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’. At first glance, it may seem like this is an Awami League program. However, behind the procession, there was a different plan led by Jamaat leader Solaiman Hossain and Debhata upazila convener of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’, Mujahid Bin Firoz. During the procession, they also raised provocative slogans such as ‘Jamaat-Shibir’s skin, we will take off’ and ‘BNP’s skin, we will take off’.
Mujahid Bin Firoz, the convener of the Debhata Upazila branch of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’, and Sakhipur Union Jamaat leader Solaiman Hossain, coordinator Imran Hossain, Mir Arif Tara and their followers took part in the procession by wearing helmets and masks, hiding their faces. As per the dramatic plan, Mujahid recorded a few seconds of the procession and spread it on Facebook at night. In the video, he gave a threatening message in the name of Awami League.
Although the video was initially unclear, a clear video was later leaked, where Jamaat leader Solaiman and student leader Mujahid could be identified by their clothes and movements. The matter went viral on social media. After this incident, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement took organizational action against Mujahid. A press release on Wednesday (July 23) said that Mujahid was permanently expelled for violating the organization’s ideology and discipline.
There were various allegations against Mujahid earlier. A few days ago, he claimed to be the Speaker of the National Assembly on Facebook. A few days later, he was announced as a candidate for the Satkhira-3 constituency. Last year, during the political unrest, he spread influence locally by defaming the Awami League. He even pressured the UNO and OC in various ways. Recently, three of his associates were arrested by the army in the attack on the house of an Awami League leader. When the news about the matter was published, Mujahid tried to put pressure on the concerned representative in various ways. He even created a huge commotion at the Upazila Law and Order Committee meeting and threatened to frame the journalist by filing a case.
Md. Arafat Hossain, convener of the Satkhira district branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, “He has been involved in controversial activities several times even while holding a responsible position. He had been warned before. But since there was no change, the decision to expel him had to be taken in the interest of the organization.
According to Debhata Upazila Jamaat sources, a list of the names of Solaiman Hossain and other workers who participated in the procession has been prepared and sent to the district Jamaat along with organizational recommendations. Angry over this incident, fake Facebook accounts have been spreading misinformation in the name of Jamaat’s top leaders for the past few days.
Debhata Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Maulana Md. Aliul Islam said that the people in the procession are being identified. Initially, it is believed that information has been received about the participation of several people, including Rokon member Solaiman. According to the party rules, we are looking into the matter seriously and appropriate organizational measures will be taken.
Debhata Police Station OC Golam Kibria Hasan said that the procession, which lasted for a few seconds, wearing helmets and masks, was not found in the darkness of the recent night. We can find out by investigating the matter. He also said that the law and order situation in Debhata is normal. If anyone tries to disrupt the peace, whoever he is, he will be given a break in some way.
