The suffering of the villagers has reached its peak due to the poor condition of the nearly three-kilometer unpaved road that runs through the two villages of Shalki and Matikata in Swarmusiya Union of Atpara Upazila of the district. A ground inspection of the area revealed that the dirt road from Madan-Netrakona DC Road, 300 feet west of Nasibpur intersection, starting from Shah Sultan Road in front of Matikata Shahid Mia’s house, crossing the Jame Mosque of Matikata village, from the mosque of Shalki village to Nixon Master’s house, and from Shalki Mosque to Sreepur Bridge to DC Road, as well as from Shalki Mosque to Asan Coolie Shrine and Eidgah ground, has become completely impassable during the rainy season. On the morning of Saturday, July 19, local residents Md. Ekdil Mia, Md. Kamal Hossain, Shahidul Alam, Swapan Mia, Jahangir Alam and many others said that for the last 50 years, the people of this village have been deprived of all facilities because of a road. Even after asking the MPs and the chairman members, they couldn’t get a road built. These two villages are home to several thousand people, and patients have to travel to the city via roads that run over the village houses. Children, the elderly, and students are facing various problems going to school and college. They are facing hardships while taking locally produced agricultural products and crops to the city. Due to the condition of this rural road, various accidents often occur. Villagers said that when their sons and daughters were about to get married, the marriages broke up due to the poor condition of the road. Because of the road, they are lagging behind other areas in many ways, including socially and economically. In this situation, the locals are seeking urgent intervention from the appropriate authorities and the interim government to construct and pave a road.
