3 CU students washed ashore in Cox’s Bazar, recovered a body

Three students from the 2023-24 session of the Department of Development Studies of Chittagong University (CU) were swept away while bathing at Himchhari Point on the sea beach in Cox’s Bazar. The body of one of the students, M. Sadman Rahman, was recovered. He is the son of KM Anisur Rahman, a resident of Mirpur, Dhaka. Two other students are missing. The incident occurred around 7 am on Tuesday. The deceased student lived in the university’s Shaheed Md. Farhad Hossain Hall. The other two missing students are Asif Ahmed and Aritra Hasan, both from Bogra district. They are also students of the same department and hall at Chittagong University. Talking to other classmates, it was learned that the first-year written exams of Sadman and his classmates ended yesterday, Monday. After the exams, Shadman and five friends came to Cox’s Bazar for a visit yesterday afternoon. Three of them went to bathe in the sea in the Himchhari area of ​​the beach and were swept away. A short while later, Sadman’s body washed up on the beach, but the other two remain missing. When asked, Mohammad Sohaib, president of the Development Studies department, said that Sadman’s body is in Himchhari. The fire service is searching for the other two. Chittagong University Proctor Tanvir Mohammad Haider Arif said he contacted the Cox’s Bazar Tourism Police and Fire Service after learning about the incident around 9 am this morning. The Fire Service said that rescue operations are facing some difficulties due to rough seas. Asif Khan, the officer on duty at the Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Station, said that after receiving information about the body of one person floating in the water, a fire service team went to the scene and is conducting rescue operations to rescue the other two. Himchhari Investigation Center Police Inspector Somnath Basu said, “The friends went into the rough sea together. Three of them drowned in the current.” One body has been recovered, but two are still missing. We are on the beach, and efforts are underway to rescue them.
