Bangladesh Navy seizes 12 boats with illegal nets and fish worth Tk 18 crore

A special operation is being conducted to ensure proper breeding, production and conservation of fish resources in the country’s sea and coastal areas. Yesterday, Monday (12-05-2025), Bangladesh Navy ship ‘Banouja Shaheed Farid’ conducted an operation in the downs and adjacent areas of Cox’s Bazar and seized 12 fishing boats.
450,000 meters of current nets, 520 behundi nets, 16,000 meters of other nets and 220 kg of fish were seized from the seized boats. The estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk 18 crore. 61 fishermen on the fishing boat were also arrested at this time. In the presence of the Executive Magistrate and a representative of the Fisheries Department, the nets were burned and destroyed in the area adjacent to Ali Akbar Delghat and the seized fish were distributed to local orphanages. Later, the arrested fishermen were handed over to the local administration.
In the ongoing operation, illegal nets, traps and fishing gear worth around 193 crore 31 lakh 38 thousand taka have been seized. The Bangladesh Navy is firmly in a strong position to successfully implement the Jatka killing prevention and 58-day fishing ban operation-2025.
