The distribution of the Bakna calves was held under the Native Species Fish and Snail Conservation and Development Project implemented by the Department of Fisheries.

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate (Joint Secretary) Muhammad Kamruzzaman was present as the chief guest at the Bakna calf distribution ceremony at the Gopalganj Fisheries Officer’s office premises on Monday (April 21) afternoon.

At that time, District Fisheries Officer Bijon Kumar Nandi, Project Director of the Native Fish and Snail Conservation and Development Project Md. There are 3,169 card-holding fishermen in Sadar Upazila. Of these, a list of 150 people was prepared, but in the first phase, 75 people were given veal calves.

Each distributed calf weighs approximately between 80 and 100 kg. However, if more allocations are made later, the remaining 75 people will also be given bakna calves, the concerned authorities said.
