3-day training workshop inaugurated in Gopalganj

A 3-day (April 8-10) training workshop was inaugurated in Gopalganj with the participation of contractors and field engineers under the Sustainable Infrastructure for Adaptation and Risk Reduction (RIVER) Project implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) with financial support from the World Bank. Md. Sharif Uddin, Superintendent Engineer of Faridpur region of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), was present as the chief guest at the training workshop organized at the conference room of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad on Tuesday (April 8) at 10 am. Arun Kumar Chowdhury, Project Director of the Ridgeland Infrastructure for Adaptation and Vulnerability Reduction (RIVER) Project, was present as the special guest at the event. Md. Ehsanul Haque, Executive Engineer of Gopalganj LGED, presided over the event. Also present at the event were DTL Dr. SM Parvez Muhith, Upazila Engineers, Deputy Assistant Engineers and members of the LGED Gopalganj technical team, consultants, trainers, members of contracting organizations, and media personnel working in various print and electronic media in the district. The program was moderated by Md. Rakibul Kabir, Assistant Engineer of Gopalganj LGED Office. At the beginning of the program, the Imam of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Jame Mosque recited a recitation from the Holy Quran. Hiren Chandra Howlader, assistant engineer of the IRIDP3 project, recited the Holy Gita. Arun Kumar Chowdhury, Project Director of the River Project, delivered the welcome speech at the event. Chief guest at the event, LGED Faridpur Region Superintending Engineer Md. Sharif Uddin said that a total of 67 flood shelters will be constructed in Gopalganj district under this project funded by the World Bank. The work has already started in the district. He called on everyone involved in this work to be 100% responsible. After the speech, he declared the 3-day workshop auspicious. The president of the event, Executive Engineer of Gopalganj LGED, Md. Ehsanul Haque, expressed his gratitude to all the invitees and said that the flood-shelter project has already started with the financial support of the World Bank and the Bangladesh government and the implementation of LGED to keep the people of the country safe during emergencies. He emphasized on the implementation of the project while maintaining the quality of work to the contractors/representatives involved in the project. All concerned, including media personnel, were requested to observe the project and expressed hope that the benefits of this flood-shelter home built in disaster-prone areas would be conveyed to the general public through extensive publicity.
