A patient’s chili incident at a hospital in Gazaria!

A patient with breathing problems is behaving like a madman in the Gazaria Upazila Health Complex in Munshiganj. He is beating up nearby patients and vandalizing their belongings. The doctors, nurses, and patients at the hospital were overwhelmed by his screaming. It is learnt that on Monday (March 3) at around 9 pm, a patient named Shahnaz (21) from Bhaberchar Bagan Bari area came to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex with respiratory problems. After initial observation, the doctor at the hospital’s emergency department admitted him. Her husband Al Amin was with her at the time. Meanwhile, on Tuesday (March 4) morning, her husband left home around 8:00 am. Shortly after, Shahnaz started behaving strangely. They are beating nearby patients and vandalizing their belongings. He started vandalizing the hospital furniture and shouting. Doctors and nurses came to the hospital several times to try to calm him down, but they failed. Later, he was tied to a window on one side of the hospital for the safety of nearby patients. Afia Begum, a patient admitted to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex, said, “We have been disturbed by his unusual behavior since morning. Sometimes he is attacking patients and beating them, sometimes he is breaking things.” The situation is such that he will have to endure the pain in the hospital. Another patient, Salma Akhter, said, “They are removing the injection cannula from the patients’ hands. One patient is throwing away the saline stand, bag, and food.” “He has caused a huge commotion in the entire women’s ward.” Regarding the matter, Dr. Debabrata Das, a doctor at the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex, said, ‘Looking at the condition, it seems that he is probably suffering from some kind of mental illness. Such patients need to be treated in a special manner, but our hospital does not have that kind of system. We are trying to contact the patient’s relatives.” Regarding the matter, Gazaria Upazila Executive Officer Md. Ashraful Alam said, ‘I am aware of the matter. Instructions have been given to take necessary measures to ensure that one patient does not cause problems for other patients.
