The two groups of students from the Geography and Environment Department at Islamic University on Wednesday staged a bilateral position in front of the administration building.

One group of students demanded that the present department name, “Geography and Environment,” should not be changed. The other group of students demanded that the department be renamed “Environmental Science and Technology.”

Students in favor of keeping the department name unchanged demanded the trial of those involved in departmental terrorist activities and an end to propaganda by individuals using the identity of ordinary students. On the other hand, students demanding the implementation of the name “Environmental Science and Technology” warned that if the administration does not comply with their demands, they will block the Kushtia-Khulna highway tomorrow and take legal action.

Regarding this, Proctor Dr. Sahinuzzaman said, “In today’s syndicate meeting, the issue of changing the department’s name has been included in the agenda. A decision will be made based on everyone’s discussion and opinion, considering all aspects for the welfare of the students.”
