The winter tradition of rural Bengal is the Pitha Festival. To maintain that tradition, there is a spring fair of pitha puli everywhere from the plains to the coast. When winter comes, the village is in a frenzy to eat pitha puli. The sweet scent of that pitha puli is now filling the entire coast.

On Saturday (January 25th), more than three hundred backward youth of the coast, including school students, village elders, mothers, sisters and children, were seen coming to this Pitha Festival at the Kashimari Ideal School and College premises.

This Pitha Festival was organized by the Coastal Youth Network, a coastal youth organization, in Kashimari, Shyamnagar, Satkhira, from morning to the whole day.

Members of various units of the organization attended the Pitha Festival with about 35 types of pitha at the 8 stalls of this festival. Which included – steamed pie, chitai pure, milk chitoi pie, jhal pie, malpua, mera pie, malai pie, muthi pie, andsha, kulshi, kata pie, banana pie, date pie, khidki, gokul pie, rose flower pie, clove latika, rasful pie, sundari pakana, sar bhaja, puli pie, leaf pie, patishapta, pakan pie, boiled coconut puli, coconut jilapi, bay leaf pie, oil pie, oil poa pie, moon pakana pie, chart pie, pantua, jamdani pie, hadi pie, jhal poa pie, jhuri pie, chal pie, chitka pie, bibikhana, chutki pie, chapari pie, mussel pie, sunray mukhi Pitha, Ful Pitha, Bibiana Pitha, Semai Pitha, Nokshi Pitha, Coconut Pitha, Fried Coconut Puli, Dudhraj, Fuljhuri Pitha and other types of pitha.

The festival was hosted by Coastal Youth Network President Raisul Islam and Shyamnagar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Roni Khatun was present as the chief guest. SM Abdul Hai, Principal, Kashimari Ideal School and College, Barsike Regional Coordinator Ramakrishna Joardar, Coastal Youth Network members Swapan Das, Sakila Parveen, Masud Hasan, Mahfuzur Rahman, Farzana Islam, and others spoke at the pitha festival.
