Desperate victim got a ray of hope on the advice of the officer-in-charge of the city’s Khulshi police station.

Housemaid Selina Aktar Afia (21) was arrested from faraway Teknaf with cash and gold ornaments.

At a CMP’s press conference, Police Public Relations Officer Raish Uddin urged the city residents to be more aware and said that before renting a house to any housemaid or tenant, the information-rich form provided by the police should be filled out and submitted to the concerned police station. By doing so, the police can take quick action if any incident occurs.

Talking to the victim, Mahbubur Rahman said that when he went out with his family for a walk outside the house, the housemaid ran away with the gold ornaments &TK, having previously hired a painter to do the painting work in the victim’s house. Then the owner of the house noticed that she used to give tea and biscuits to a painter in advance named Hasan earlier, and even talked to him on his mobile phone a few times. Thief took the number of the painter Hasan.

The owner of the house, Mahbubur Rahman, who lives in a place called East Nasirabad, came to the house and saw the cupboards broken & outdoor window broken, he became restless.

Then when he narrated the incident to the painter, painter admitted that he had nothing to do with the theft.
Later, the thief called the painter just because he was in love with him maybe. With the help of information technology, a smart team of Khulshi police station was able to arrest the accused with evidence from a place called Kwangchhari Para in Sabrang under Teknaf police station with the help of Teknaf police station. The police conducted this operation on the 22nd January 2025.

Out of the lost 1 lakh cash TK, recovered in cash only 18000/-. 12.5 bhari gold ornaments were recovered and taken into the custody of SI Rofiqul Islam.
The total value of the stolen goods was estimated to be around Tk 22 lakh TK.
The police officer said he was arrested under Section 381 of the Penal Code in case No. 8 of Khulshi police station.

According to the law, “If property in the possession of the owner is stolen by a clerk or servant, whoever, being a clerk or servant or acting in the capacity of a clerk or servant, steals any property in the possession of his master or employer, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may be longer”.

The victim, Mahabubur Rahman, told TMG that it is not right to trust anyone easily, thinking I was helpless and arranged for him to work at home, but today she stole our ornaments, Cash taka with valuable thing. He said today I realise “Professionalism must be followed in all types of work and business”. He also said today I find out my valuable ornaments only for police help.
