The BGB has thwarted the construction of a barbed wire fence by BSF at Uchna border under Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat.  On Tuesday (21 January) in the foggy morning, the BSF trucked in with barbed wire fence construction materials and attempted to construct barbed wire fence within about 20 yards of the Uchna Sonatala to Kaya border, about 4 km from the main pillar 281 and sub-pillars 33, 34 and 35, violating the border agreement. BGB member Havildar Ruhul Amin, guarding the border, told The Daily Morning Glory, ” BSF could not erect the barbed wire fence due to the BGB’s obstruction. They took the goods back in trucks. In protest against the incident, BGB gave a written proposal for a flag meeting. A flag meeting was held at the company commander level in the border area adjacent to Post No. 3 of the border from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Hatkhola BOP Commander Naik Subedar Shahjahan and Gopalpur Camp Commander Inspector Deepak led the BGB and BSF respectively. The Hatkhola Commander told this correspondent that the BSF was told that they would not build the barbed wire fence again. After the flag meeting, they removed the few poles provided by the BSF. He said that the BSF’s attempt to build a fence around Zero Point is a clear violation of international border law.
