A human chain was held in Durgapur Union of Durgapur Upazila of Netrokona to protest against ongoing irregularities and corruption in various development projects. The human chain was organized by people from all walks of life of Durgapur Union at the Upazila Parishad premises on Monday afternoon. It demanded an end to various irregularities, corruption and looting in various ongoing development projects.

Durgapur Union BNP convener Md. Fazlul Haque, senior joint convener Md. Rafiqul Islam Badsha, upazila volunteer party convener Mirza Nazrul, teacher Mostaq Ahmed, union BNP member secretary Borhan Uddin, union Jubo Dal senior joint convener Md. Jalal Uddin and former Sramik Dal president Shafiqul Islam Babul spoke at the human chain.

After the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to the District Commissioner through the UNO.
The memorandum states that construction work of small and big bridges is going on at various places in Durgapur Union No. 2 of Durgapur Upazila, besides construction work of embankment of Someshwari River in Farangpara Battala is going on. In these works, the contractor companies are not maintaining the quality standards as per the estimate of the work. Very low quality cement and 2.5 sand as per the estimate for casting
Instead, very low quality sand is being used to cast the bridge pilings. Instead of 420 grade rods, very low quality rods are being used. The depth of the pilings of various bridges is 45 feet instead of 45 feet.
The work is being done in a haphazard manner by piling 20/25 feet. As a result, the quality of the bridge work is not maintained. These low-quality bridges are likely to collapse in the event of a minor landslide. This will increase the suffering of the people instead of reducing it, and will also be a serious waste of government money.
