Investigation into irregularities in CDA 15-project began on Saturday
Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) high level committee is investigating the irregularities and corruption of around 15 mega projects in the past. The five-member committee, led by Additional Secretary of the Public Works Ministry Kamal Uddin, going to start its formal work from Saturday (January 11).
A member of the committee, who did not want to be named, said that the major projects completed or ongoing the CDA during the previous government will be investigated. The documents of the projects are being collected and two months have been given to complete the investigation.
It is learned that there are allegations of widespread corruption and irregularities in the projects taken by the CDA in the past 15 years of the previous Awami League government since 2009. Government’s MP’s ministers and their people and those related to the CDA are involved in this. In particular, Abduch Salam was the chairman of the CDA for most of the past 15 years.

According to investigation sources, the most sensational issue during the previous government was that a large number of people were illegally allotted plots in Kalpalok and Ananya residential areas. It is known that influential people from different levels of society who have land and establishments in various parts of the country including Dhaka-Chattogram, have been allotted plots as a kind of ‘Maswara’ or ‘gift’. It is being said that all these plots have been given completely illegally to satisfy them to stay in power. This list includes former ministers, members of parliament, university vice-chancellors, politicians, bureaucrats, television presenters and other influential people from different levels of society.
According to CDA sources, most of the plots allotted to them have been sold. A vested interest group of the CDA is also involved in this. The list of those lucky plot holders has been prepared to be presented to the committee on Thursday.
According to CDA sources, a list of those involved at various levels, starting from the implementation of every major project during the previous government, is also being prepared. In the last 15 years, there have been three chairmen of CDA. One of them has served five terms. Many officers working in CDA have already retired.
Under special consideration, 59 people were allotted plots from the Ananya residential area of CDA. Among those allotted are Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Anisul Islam Mahmud, Dr. Afsarul Amin, Dilip Barua, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MA Latif, Bir Bahadur, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Chowdhury, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Dipankar Talukder, Moinuddin Khan Badal, Chemon Ara Begum, Abu Sufian, among others.
