Media visit with journalists to free the Koyra canal

A special campaign and media visit has been held under the initiative of Sundaran Coalition to free the Koyra Canal in Koyra Upazila.
On Monday (December 2), at 12 pm, journalists were assured of participating in this campaign to highlight the long-standing suffering of the local people on the banks of the Koyra Canal and to bring to the fore the need to restore the canal.

During the campaign, the local people said that the lives of about 12,000 people have become miserable due to the occupation of local powerful people for ages. Due to the natural closure of the canal, there has been a huge loss in agriculture, irrigation system, and livelihood of fishermen. Local residents are constantly suffering due to waterlogging and lack of water.

During the campaign, the local people complained that they are deprived of their just rights over the canal. Especially families dependent on agriculture and fisheries are facing a serious economic crisis. They claimed in front of the journalists that if the canal is freed from encroachment, their standard of living will improve and the local economy will be revived.

The program was attended by journalists from the  Press Club Koyra and Koyra Upazila Place Club. Also present were Avijeet Mahaldar, President of Patharkhali Milni Jubo Sangha. Harun Ar Rashid, Technical Manager of CNRS,
