Gazaria (Munshiganj) Correspondent
A part of the bridge collapsed in Gazaria, Munshiganj, less than two years after its construction. This cost the government about 32 lakh taka. The bridge collapsed due to landslides four years ago, but it has not been repaired yet. People have to travel long distances to reach different destinations.Thousands of people are suffering as a result. The collapsed bridge is on a canal adjacent to the Sarker house in Boro Kalipura village of Imampur union of the upazila. It is known that in the 2018-19 fiscal year, the Disaster Management Department constructed a bridge over the canal adjacent to Bara Kalipura village on the Bara Kalipura-Tanu Sarkar Kandi road. It cost about 32 lakh 41 thousand 436 taka. About four years ago, the strong flow of flood water caused the soil to move from under the bridge, creating a deep hole. At one point, the bridge collapsed and was separated from the connecting road. After that, no initiative was taken to repair or rebuild the bridge. t can be seen on the ground that the bridge on the road used by the people of the village, including Tonu Sarkar Kandi and Bara Kalipura, in the union, has been tilted, one part upwards and the other downwards. The rods are protruding in many places. Ismail Hossain of Boro Kalipura village said that the bridge was broken during the flood four years ago. Now there is a lot of problem in transportation. For any need, one has to travel a long way to reach the destination. Since this bridge is broken, boys and girls are not able to go to school properly. If the bridge is built quickly, there will be no more suffering. Azizul Hossain, a student of Bara Kalipura Government School, said, “We are not able to go to school on time. We have to go through many routes to go to school. Although most of the roads in the area are paved, we are lagging behind due to the lack of only one bridge. We demand the construction of the bridge as soon as possible.” Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abu Said Mallick said that the necessary documents have been sent seeking allocation to rebuild the bridge. The allocation has not been received yet.The official said that a new bridge will be constructed at that location once the allocation is received.
