‘Social forestry cannot be done in natural forests’

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, Climate Change and Water Resources, said that social forestry cannot be done in natural forests. In social forestry, the money is distributed among the beneficiaries by felling the trees. It is not the responsibility of the forest department to distribute money. Their primary duty is to protect natural forests.
The environmental adviser said these things while addressing the chief guest at the ‘International Environment Conference-2024’ organized by ‘Sabuj Prithivi’ in Tangail on Wednesday.
Tangail District Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr. Shahidul Haque, Aspada Environment Development Foundation Executive Director Lion MA Rashid, Riverine People Secretary General Sheikh Rokan, Sabuj Prithivi General Secretary Shahid Mahmud spoke as special guests at the conference.
Bureau Bangladesh Director (Operations-Financial Services, HRD & ICT) Farmina Hossain presided.
