Aisha Siddika, Deputy Director of Chittagong Regional Office of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, informed this information in a circular sent on Thursday (October 17) night.

In the notification, a joint operation was conducted in the evening at a house in Ramana Abasik Masjid Street of Rangipara in Halishahar area of ​​Chittagong city. 3 crore 37 lakh 50 thousand pieces of cigarette stamps, 1 thousand 736 rolls of cigarette paper (white large roll 148, small white roll 425, black large roll 126, black small roll 1,037) and one piece of DDR (CCTV) were seized in the operation on suspicion of counterfeiting. is done The seized goods have been deposited in the customs warehouse of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Chittagong.

Ayesha Siddika said, the National Board of Revenue has formed a committee to identify the existing irregularities in the cigarette industry including the import of raw materials for making cigarettes and the illegal use of imported raw materials, the production of fake cigarettes and to take preventive measures. The committee has collected various information and the process of bringing under the law those involved in the creation of chaos in the cigarette industry including revenue evasion by importing raw materials for making cigarettes and producing fake cigarettes through illegal use of imported raw materials is ongoing. In continuation of this, raids were conducted on the basis of secret information of illegal stockpiling of various materials for making fake cigarettes including fake bandrolls.

He also said that necessary legal action will be taken against those involved in stockpiling the seized materials for manufacturing fake cigarettes.

Those concerned said that these materials were seized by searching two rooms on the ground floor of Al Farid Mansion in the mosque street of that residential area in a few hours operation from Thursday evening to night.

Additional Commissioner of Chittagong Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Tafshir Uddin Bhunya said, after sending the seized goods for lab test, it will be known whether these cigarette brand rolls are genuine or fake. Presumably since they are kept in illegal godowns, they are fake. After the verification, a case will be filed against those involved. Former panel mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, Abdus Sabur Liton and his small children have rented the house and kept it, the house owner said.
